TFBF Statement – Coronavirus Food Assistance Program

Columbia, Tenn. April 17, 2020. – The following can be attributed to Tennessee Farm Bureau President Jeff Aiken:

“We commend President Trump and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue for working together to develop the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), a $19 billion immediate relief program for farmers across the country. We also thank Congress for allocating this money in the CARES Act.

Just as Tennessee farmers are considered essential and have continued working to keep a stable food supply during the COVID-19 pandemic, this relief package is essential to keeping them in business as agriculture commodity prices have declined dramatically. In addition to the immediate relief for our farmers, it will also allow USDA to purchase a variety of agricultural products and distribute to food banks for our fellow Americans in need. We look forward to learning more about how the aid will be distributed, and again appreciate the efforts of the President and USDA for putting this important package together.”
