Tennessee Pork Producers Association Hosts Annual Activities

All Tennessee pork producers who pay into the Pork Checkoff are stakeholders in the TN Pork Producers Association and are encouraged to attend the TPPA Annual Meeting/Executive Committee Meeting on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. (CST). The annual meeting activities begin with a Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) training from 10:00 a.m. – Noon at the Stark Ag Building, Middle TN State University (Mon., Jan. 6, 2020). Stephen Herring with the National Pork Board will lead this training. There is no cost to attend. Please call or email the TPPA if you would like to register to attend.

The annual meeting for the TN Pork Producers begins at 1:30 p.m. (Mon, Jan. 6, 2020 Embassy Suites, Murfreesboro, TN), And we are pleased to host the annual meeting of the Farm Animal Care Coalition of TN (FACCT) at 2:45 – 3:45 p.m. Join us and hear updates from new Executive Director, Julie Giles, on all of the activities of FACCT. From 4:00-4:45 p.m. we welcome, Dr. Samantha Beaty, recently named State Veterinarian, who will provide an update on livestock neglect/abuse situations in Tennessee. The TPPA annual meeting, FACCT meeting and update from Dr. Beaty takes place at the Embassy Suites, 1200 Conference Center Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN. The TPPA meeting allows a time to discuss programs for the coming year and elect committee members and officers for the TPPA Executive Committee. If you are a pork producer and interested in serving as a candidate for the Executive Committee, please contact the TPPA office (931 239 5568). Make plans to attend and be a part of the Association in 2020.

We look forward to working with Dr. Samantha Beaty in her new role as State Veterinarian and appreciate her willingness to share timely information during our annual meeting activities.

The Taste of Elegance Chefs’ Competition also takes place on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. Chefs present new pork entrées to a panel of judges during this activity. The winner receives a cash award for this pork promotion contest. This promotion highlights new ways for chefs to include pork cuts on the menus of America’s restaurants. The reception for invited guests begins at 5:00 p.m. (CST). The fun Bid for Pork Auction follows the Taste of Elegance. We look forward to a great evening.

Activities for youth in the market hog project will take place Tuesday-Thursday, Jan. 7-9, 2020 as a part of the annual TPPA activities. The State Jr. Hog Show continues to grow – 358 exhibitors in 2019 with over 750 hogs tagged for the show. The show now includes a registered gilt show along with the market hog show. The traditional Market Hog classes will show on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020. The State Jr Hog Show takes place at the TN Livestock Center on the campus of Middle TN State University. Youth are invited to participate in the photography pork promotion “just for fun” contest. The State 4-H office and county 4-H offices have complete information about these activities. An informal pork industry trade show will also take place on Tues-Thur at the TN Livestock Center. We appreciate businesses supporting our pork industry events. All are invited to attend.
