Farm Bureau Sends Guidance to the President, Congress, and Federal Agencies

Guidance to President Trump

Farm Bureau and several other organizations concerned about possible disruptions in the food supply chain have jointly sent a letter to President Trump emphasizing the critical nature of meat processing facilities.  The letter follows increasing reports of facilities that have either been temporarily closed or that have suspended operations due to the coronavirus emergency.

Guidance to Congress

Farm Bureau sent a letter to Congress requesting additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program and technical corrections to make SBA’s PPP and Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs more accessible for farmers. Farm Bureau sent the letter to Congress supporting additional funding to the PPP and making 501(c)5 agricultural organizations eligible for the program. AFBF is also asking Congress to make technical corrections to the PPP and Economic Income Disaster Loan (EIDL) program so these programs become more accessible for farmers. Farm Bureau also signed onto a coalition letter that supports additional funding for the PPP.

Guidance to USDA prior to the Announcement of CFAP

Prior to release of the New Coronavirus Food Assistance Program  Tennessee Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau and other state Farm Bureaus  sent letters to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting support for various sectors of agriculture following the allocation of money to USDA in CARES Act.
