Collegiate Discussion Meet

Collegiate Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each college-age participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems. Successful participants are productive thinkers rather than emotional persuaders and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps. 2016-17 YF&R Discussion Meet Guide

Discussion Meet

The Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation Discussion Meet competitive event is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. Excellence in Agriculture

The Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation Excellence in Agriculture Award Program is designed as an opportunity for Young Farmers & Ranchers, while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture, to earn recognition. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations. The Excellence in Agriculture Award Contest will be held on September 30, 2016 at the YF&R Fall Agriculture Tour in West Tennessee.

Environmental Stewardship

This award recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship efforts by TFBF Young Farmers while increasing public awareness of the agricultural community’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The award is designed to help young farmers who strive for environmental preservation and best management practices on their farms to evaluate their progress and celebrate their successes. County nominations will be submitted to county extension offices by June 2. State winner will receive a personalized framed certificate and an environmental stewardship sign, along with a $1,000 cash award from TFBF, a trip to the AFBF YF&R Leadership Conference, and trips to all Tennessee YF&R Conferences.

Young Farmer of the Year (Achievement Award)

This program rewards farmers for their commitment to excellence in the agriculture industry and their efficiency in farming practices, sound financial management, and leadership in civic organizations. The state winner will receive a years’ use up to 150 hours of a Case IH Tractor, $1,000 from TFBF, RTV loaded to keep, $500 in qualified Farm Bureau Services, and insurance on the Case IH Tractor for one-year provided by Tennessee Farmers Insurance.

Outstanding YF&R Woman of the Year

The Outstanding YF&R Woman of the Year Contest will be held during the State Convention in Franklin at the Embassy Suites on December 6, 2014. Contestants will be judged on application and interview, Farm Bureau/YF&R activities, presentation, and community involvement. Entries need to be mailed into the home office by November 15, 2014. The state winner will receive a $1,000 cash reward from TFBF, a trip to the AFBF YF&R National Leaders Conference, and trips to all Tennessee YF&R Conferences.

YouTell Ag Video Contest

Designed and added in 2013, the “YouTell Ag” Videography Contest is designed to provide participants the opportunity to enlighten other producers and the general public on methods of production and issues facing today’s farmers. Videos should be between 2-5 minutes in length. Counties which participate by having a current YF&R member in good standing submit a video to the contest will be eligible to receive 10 points on their YF&R event of their choice for the upcoming year. Winners will be announced at State Convention.
