Artificial intelligence or AI as it’s widely referred to, is something you hear about almost daily. Now, the new advancements being made in the technology is poised to impact almost all facets of life, including agriculture. Steven Dyer, with the Central Service Association, has been studying in depth about AI and telling industries, how it can benefit them. He says, for agriculture, it’s already here and only going to become more relied upon.

Steven Dyer
It’s been in play for about about 24 months from what I’m looking at everything from automated drones to autonomous vehicles so that they can actually go out reducing labor costs, being able to pinpoint very, very specific plants and bugs and, and soil and anything that give the farmers an advantage I think is the biggest side and I’m seeing a whole industry being being created in the ag sub sector to be able to serve that. Colleges, universities are putting a lot of effort toward making sure they have all the different parts and pieces in place.

Some have reservations about AI but Dyer assures there’s nothing to worry about.

Steven Dyer
Making sure that you’re taking very basic steps. And the fun way to do that is just go out and ask AI what’s the safest way I can interact with you and it’ll give you a step by step way to keep you safe, keep you secure. It has no harmful intent.

Just another tool farmers can use to enhance an already solid food and fiber system.

Steven Dyer
It’s just like a tractor. It’s just like a sprayer, utilize it to be able to be more efficient. That’s the key to the whole thing is learn the pieces that you need, and then, you know, expand and keep learning to be an AI operator.
