Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Workshops

This workshop is a one-day, informal training seminar. You can select to attend a site that is close to where you live. By using handson activities, you will have an opportunity to share, learn, and gain new ideas from other teachers. Some school systems even give up to six hours of in-service credit (check with your Administrator) for participating. In addition, by attending you will be giving other teachers in your school the chance to obtain AITC materials at no cost. The materials are interdisciplinary. While they highlight Tennessee agriculture, they encompass math, science, social studies, health and nutrition, language arts, music, art, etc. The materials are available for preschool through 12th grade. They meet TerraNova/Achievement and end of course teaching objectives and are correlated with Tennessee Department of Education teaching standards.

Each participant receives a resource kit with approximately $200 in educational resource material ... FREE ... just for attending the workshop. The materials include not only teacher’s manuals, but CD-Roms, videos, posters, student materials, maps, lab guides, etc. The workshop is FREE! ... except for your own transportation. The materials are free and there are lots of them! There is no registration or application fee. As a participant, we provide a light continental breakfast and lunch at no cost. We will even show how your school can apply for an outdoor classroom garden grant, worth up to $2,500!

We want to introduce you to Tennessee agriculture and show you how easy it is to incorporate the information into your existing classroom curriculum, even if you know nothing about it. Agriculture is just that important. Just think about it ... we need food, clothing, shelter and fuel to survive, right? We can’t have it without agriculture. It is this understanding and appreciation that we are trying to get across to everyone, especially students.
